A VARIABLE-MU SEISMOMETER

Abstract

A seismometer that utilizes the variable-mu characteristic of a ferrite sensing unit is discussed. A high inertia system has been constructed and transistorized circuitry completed whereby earth tremors may be recorded by a change in frequency of a beat note that results from a variation of the magnetic coupling between the stationary and the moving portions of the seismometer. The preliminary experimentation indicates that the variable-mu seismometer principle is a possibility. (Author)
