BIOLOGICAL AND MEDICAL ASPECTS OF IONIZING RADIATION

Abstract

The capabilities of the unit have been augmented by adding an 8x5 inch NaI (Th) crystal to our two pi liquid scintillation whole body counter. The changing cesium-137 concentrations and the potassium findings in the general population are presented. Clinical investigations have shown the value of the whole body counter in conducting follow-up studies of patients treated for carcinoma of the thyroid. Other work is performed onA COOPERATIVE BASIS WITH THE Medical Faculty of the University of the Saar. The fission products found in the rainfall have been measured at weekly intervals since September 1961. Milk samples obtained from various European areas show a recent marked increase in cesium-137 concentration. (Author)
