HUMAN OPERATOR TRANSFER FUNCTION INVESTIGATION

Abstract

AD-278 190Div. 28 U (TISTB/AW) OTS price $8.60 Cornell Aeronautical Lab., Inc., Buffalo, N. Y. HUMAN OPERATOR TRANSFER FUNCTION INVESTIGATION, by Grady J. Eakin and Graham F. Campbell. 1 Oct 57, 99p. incl. illus. tables, 6 refs. (Rept. no. TE-665-F-5) (Contract AF 33(038)9200) Unclassified report DESCRIPTORS: *Human engineering, Pilots, Con trol, Handling, Stability, Control sticks, Effectiveness, Functions, Aircraft. Identifiers: F-94A aircraft. The phase and amplitude ratio of the transfer function used by a pilot in flying an aircraft with several different handling characteristics were obtained from flight test data. The transfer function obtained relates aircraft pitch angles (as the input to the pilot) to stick force (as the output of the pilot). This data was obtained during flight tests of an artificially stabilized F-94A aircraft. During the flight tests, three sets of short period pitch axis aircraft response characteristics were utilized. At each of the three sets of characteristics, several values of stick force per g and stick displacement per g were provided. Pilot transfer functions are presented for all of the combinations of response characteristics and stick force and stick travel per g. (Author)
