SOLAR ORIENTING DEVICE FOR EXPANDABLE FLAT-PANEL ARRAY

Abstract

The wind loading study was extended to the 36square-foot solar panel to investigate the effect of various values of wind force and overturning moments in relation to leg length. A table of motor power requirements (peak load) is included for various values of wind velocity. Orientation sensor analysis of the present design is discussed, showing the effect of using a plate perpendicular to the sun shade. The sensitivity test was conduct d indoors to determineAPPROXIMATE VALUES OF SENSOR SENSITIVITY TO ANGULAR DEVIATION. A diagram of the final mount design and drive head assembly is presented and i s dimensions and a general description of its construction are discussed. The setup procedure required for operation on sloping terrain is analyzed and a possible modification of the present drive head assembly is discussed. (Author)
