TACAN SOLID STATE ELECTRONIC KEYER

Abstract

Research is concerned with the design, construction, and testing of a solid-state electronic identification keyer for existing and future Tacan and similar navigational aid equipments to replace mechanical keyers now in use. The function of the Tacan keyer is to produce a beacon identification, consisting of four Morse-coded characters, transmitted once every thirty seconds. The keyer developed is compatible with existing and new equipments and has definite advantages in reliability, coded-output setup procedure, flexibility with respect to application in future equipments and potential size reduction. Maintenance is reduced considerably, since periodic servicing and adjustment is nonexistent. (Author)
