THE LINEAR ERROR ANALYSIS OF A DIFFERENTIAL CORRECTION PROCEDURE

Abstract

The differential correction procedure used for astrodynamical data reduction is shown to be a method of solution of the unweighted least squares problem. A formula for the covariance matrix of the parameters estimated by this procedure is then found, by considering the generalized least squares problem. It is shown that this matrix has a larger determinant than does the matrix obtained by solving the rigorous least squares problem. (Author)
