RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT LEADING TO PERFECTION OF INSTRUMENTATION OF ELECTRO-EXPLOSIVE DEVICES. VOLUME II. RADIO FREQUENCY TESTING AND MISCELLANEOUS METHODS OF INSTRUMENTATION

Abstract

Data from impedance measurements on the Mk 1 squib and Mk 2 ignition element at UHF and microwave frequencies re given. Use of Wheatstone bridge techniques to measure average squib bridge wire tempera ure rise caused by UHF and microwave excitations is described and preliminary re ult are presented. Comparisons of thermocouple outputs from instrumented Mk 2 ignition elements at the 50% fire level using dc 250 mc are given. Measurements have been made to determine power absorption by the Mk 1 squib base at UHF and micro ave fre uencies. Progress of investigations of using both photoconductors and thermocouples to instrument EED's, reducing time response of thermocouples electronically and applying other types of detectors to instrumenting EED's is report d.
