RADIATION POLYMERIZATION OF ACETYLENE DERIVATIVES

Abstract

Study of the radiation-induced polymerization of acetylene derivatives was initiated. Eighteen acetylene derivatives were radiolyzed; all proved sensitive to gamma-radiation. G values for monomer disappearance varied from 10 to 200, indicating a chain process. Of the products, only the polymers from neopentylene dipropiolate and acetylenedicarboxylic acid appear to be high mol cular weight. UV spectra on the latter showed absorption characteristic of polyenes. (Author)
