GENERAL RELATIVITY: THEORY AND EXPERIMENT

Abstract

A review is given of the way in which each of the three so-called ''crucial tests'' of general r lativity theory (red shift, deflection of light, planetary orbit precession) relate to parameters of the theory. A fourth, recently proposed, experiment is lso discussed from the same point of view. This consists of the measuremen of he precession rate of the spin axis of a spherical gyroscope that moves through the earth's gr vitational field. (Author)
