RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT TO SYNTHESIZE AND ISOLATE LESSER OR UNKNOWN BORANES
Abstract
The high pressure reaction of diborane with pen aborane-11 at 30 C was investigated by mass spectrometric methods. The immediate product of this reaction is nonaborane-15, which appears to exi t by vir ue of so e sort of equilibrium condition. Nonaborane-15 at very low pressures ( LES HAN !)) MICRONS) was observed to decompose to octaborane and ultimately to hexaborane-10. Decaborane-14 is also formed, but at a slow enough rate to suggest a side reac ion. ( ut or)
