NOTE ON TWO-DIMENSIONAL STRESSES IN LONG BEAM WITH SPANWISE VARIATION OF LOAD AND TEMPERATURE

Abstract

Three different methods have been presented in the literature showing how to express the two- imension l stresses in the beam in a series involving the derivatives of the bending moment produced by a varying load on the beam. One of these methods has been used to show that the two-dimensional thermal stresses can be expressed in a series involving the d rivatives of the temperature. In all cases, only the first two or three terms in the series have been presented. This report shows a simple algebraic method of obtaining the terms in the series for both load and temperature and gives the first five or six terms for each stress. (Author)
