NOTE ON AN AXIALLY SYMMETRIC EXPANSION BEHIND A BODY IN HYPERSONIC FLOW

Abstract

The flow near the rim of the flat base of a body of revolution is studied to establish th ffect which axial symmetry has on the expansion process taking place there. It is shown that this effect decreases markedly with increasing flight Mach number. The pressure gradient and streamline curvature at the rim of the base are calculated, since they would be required for any detailed computations concerning the back pr ssure. (Author)
