PREDICTION OF SURFACE WIND SPEEDS OVER THE OCEAN BY STATISTICAL METHODS

Abstract

The application of screening multiple-discriminant analysis to the prediction of surface wind speeds at Ocean Station Vessel 'Delta' 24 and 48 hours in advance is described. A non-mathematical description of the more important concepts in the technique is included. Independent sample results are presented which indicte the feasibility of predicting wind speeds for the time inrvalnsid. (Author)
