A JOY STICK CONTROL SYSTEM FOR MECHANIZING THE TRANSLATIONAL MOTIONS OF A COMPARATOR

Abstract

A control system was developed to mechanize the translational motions of two orthogonal stages on a screw comparator. This system, whose input is a range of joy stick deflections in any direction, has an output that moves the stages so that the resultant motion is in the desired direction and at a rate proportional to the stick deflection. A general analysis of the problem is presented and a specific system developed for the Wild STK-1 Stereocomparator is described. The system was installed on the comparator and tests were made to show the deviation between the resultant heading and the input heading. (Author)
