THEORY AND DESIGN DATA FOR CONTINUOUS FILM, SELF-ACTING JOURNAL BEARINGS OF FINITE LENGTH

Abstract

Charts are presented for the design of complete film, self-acting journal bearings, operating under steady state conditions, and using either liquids, vapors or gases. The application of the charts is illustrated by several examples. These charts represent the load coefficient inA NORMALIZED FASHION SO AS TO RETAIN ACCURACY OVER ALL RANGES OF RATIO OF CHARACTERISTIC LENGTH OF BEARING SURFACE IN Z DIRECTION/DIAMETER OF BEARING, BEARING NUMBER, AND ECCENTRICITY RATIO. Curves for the attitude angle are included. Performance relations for this type of bearing are summarized in appendix. In order to complete the design charts, two new analyses for the limiting cases of the short bearing and the heavily loaded bearing were developed. (Author)
