TECHNIQUES FOR THE SUPPRESSION OF SPURIOUS ENERGY

Abstract

A summary is given of results obtained under a 14-month study on high-power filter techniques to suppress the radiation of spurious frequencies from high-power sources. Detailed technic l information on the various topics summarized is contained in a series of six technical notes. The filters described cover the HF, VHF, UHF, and microwave frequency bands. At least one filter in each band was constructed and experimental results are given. A harmonic power sampler was used to measure the harmonic content in the power output of the Eimac X-812 klystron. The second and third harmonics were each about 40 db below the fundamental; the fourth, fifth, and sixth harmonics were about equally strong, each being about 60 db below the fundamental power output. Spurious energy and signal distortion that can be generated in a klystron transmitter were investigated. Particular attention is devoted to harmonic generation, mutual intermodulation between two transmitters, and long-line distortion in FM transmitters. (Author)
