DESIGN DATA STUDY FOR COATED COLUMBIUM ALLOYS

Abstract

D-14 alloy has been completed. Coatings applied by Pfaudler, TRW and Vought have been t ntatively selected for evaluatin in the design data study, and t g7eot ected a ate5 a bas material for the design data study. A brief valuation of the three candidate coatings applied to FS-85 alloy was performed, involving room temperature bend tests, cyclic oxidation tests at 2000 and 600 F,A ROMEPTRAIN FOLLOWED BY CYCLIC OXIDATION AT <))) AND <>)) F. Specimen preparation is in progress for the design data study and a description is presented fhsimendsn ad esting equipment for this phase of the program. (Auth 4 tf 7xationttive oating applied o FS-85 and D-14 alloys. Temperature ranges were from 1600 to 2600 F, and at 2000 and 2600 F aterature prestaioth elastic and plastic regions. DESCRIPTORS: *Solid rocket propellants, *Pentolite, *Tetryl, *Ordnance, Shock waves, Attenuation, Plastics, Rods, Pressure, Veloc ity, Calibration, S ENSITIVITY, Test methods. Identifiers: Polaris, Gap test.A second calibration of the gap test was made with a pentolite donor replacing the tetryl donor of the standardized test. The calibration consisted of measuring the attenuation of the shock velocity in a Plexiglass rod, and calculating the corresponding shock pressure as a function of gap distance. (Author)
