STUDIES OF VISCOELASTIC MEDIA

Abstract

New practical methods of viscoelastic stress analysis and mechanical model fitting are summarized. Stresses and displacements in configurations relating to the biaxial sheet and triaxial poker-chip tests are calculated approximately using the Minimum Potential Energy Principle. The triaxial tensile test of a thin disk of rubber is described, and results from preliminary tests of transparent polyurethaneARE REPORTED. It was found that both the character of the fracture and the strength of the rubber are sensitive to the diameter-tothickness ratio and curing time. Photoelastic pictures of internal cracks are shown. (Author)
