HIGH PERVEANCE GUN STUDY

Abstract

Research continued on the formation of stable and well-focused, high-perveance, large diameter, hollow-beams. Both magnetron injection-type guns and Pierce-type gun derivatives are being investigated. Test results are given for two magnetron injection guns. One gun, less than 2 cm in diameter, was designed to check axial cathode loading. Results concerning the second gun (5 cm diameter cathode) are compared to results of computer electron calculations. The electron motion in a magnetron injection gun as calculated by electronic computer, with particular emphasis on the rotational trajectory is presented. These results are correlated with some test data. Some preliminary test data are given for the electrostatic hollow-beam gun. (Author)
