ON THE INSTABILITY OF ELECTRON-HOLE PLASMAS IN A LONGITUDINAL MAGNETIC FIELD,

Abstract

The effect of a background of thermal holes has been included in a theory for the screw instability in electron-hole plasmas in a semiconductor. Our calculations are restricted to the case of low injection levels (injected current << Ohmic current) in p-type material. The theory is developed along the general lines of previous works by different autors. Compared with experimental results, the theory predicts heating of the plasma to temperatures of the order of the optical phonon energy. (Author)
