AIRCRAFT ELECTROSTATIC MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENTATION AND OBSERVATIONS OF CLOUD ELECTRIFICATION.

Abstract

Four electric-field meters were installed on a C-130A aircraft to provide measurements of three components of the cloud electrostatic field vector and the aircraft charge. An analog computer allowed real-time display and recording of these components. This system was used to study electrical charge production in convective clouds as an aid to the understanding of lightning charge centers. (Author)
