DEVELOPMENT OF IMPROVED METHODS, PROCESSES, AND TECHNIQUES FOR PRODUCING STEEL EXTRUSIONS.

Abstract

Feasibility studies were made of warm drawing H-11 and PH15-7 Mo to the target configuration and tolerance of .040 + or - .003 thickness. With very thin aerospace shapes, pointing becomes a critical problem. Push pointing should be considered as a means of obtaining the precision necessary to avoid breakage. H-11 is subject to a drawing defect which is apparently attributable to residual forces of gag straightening irrespective of temperature or draw speed. (Author)
