TRANSMISSION TESTING ON ALASKAN FORWARD-PROPAGATION TROPOSPHERIC SCATTER CIRCUIT,

Abstract

During the period 7 July through 9 August 1961, digital data were transmitted over a forward-propagation tropospheric scatter circuit in Alaska, and observations were made in order to evaluate the performance of this circuit in a data transmission channel. The COded BIphase (COBI) was the modem used. The circuit, routed from Ketchikan to Anchorage, was 858.7 miles in length. Error rates were established. Occurrence of errors is related, insofar as possible, to the records of equipment failures, dropouts, and circuit failures contained in the daily log. (Author)
