REINFORCED PLASTIC TAPE.
Abstract
Magnetic tape base materials possess inadequacies in certain critical data storage applications. The objective of this project is to develop backing materials which will improve the efficiency and reliability of automatic data processing equipment and astro-electronic recording devices. During this portion of Phase I, a method for uniform impregnation and a basic technique for precisely centering the glass cloth in a sandwich construction have been developed. It was found that treatment of heat-cleaned glass with an ethylene-vinyl acetate co-polymer gave superior sizing. (Author-PL).
