MODULAR DESIGN OF IMPROVED SOLAR CONVERTERS

Abstract

The program included materials study and testing and further array mechanical design work. Adhesives to be used for bonding the solar cells to the substrate were evaluated for bond strengthAND COATING MATERIALS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION OF THE SOLAR CELLS WERE EVALUATED FOR LIGHT TRANSMISSION. Preliminary test results indicate a silicone adhesive, Silastic S-140 show good promise. Several coating materials also show good promise which include two clear epoxies, a silicone potting compound and two clear plastic sheet materials. The mechanical design work included finalization of the equatorial mounting head design and a protective case for transporting and storage of the eight-module sub-assembly. (Author)
