RAPID QUENCHING OF LIQUID ALLOYS

Abstract

A technique is described by which metastable alloy phases can be obtained by very rapid cooling from the liquid state. The results obtained so far have lead to extension of solubility limits beyond their equilibrium values, new phases not found under equilibrium conditions, and amorphous alloys. (Author)
