A PROCEDURE FOR COMPUTING THE HYDROELASTIC PARAMETERS FOR A RUDDER IN A FREE STREAM

Abstract

Methods for evaluating the hydroelastic parameters for a rudder moving in a free stream are described. As an example, the hydroelastic parameters for the rudder of USS ALBACORE are evaluated. By means of a theory referenced in this report, computations of rudder-hull vibrations (including flutter) can then be made on a digital and/or analog computer using these rudder hydroelastic parameters and hull parameters evaluated by previously established methods.
