AUTOMATIC DOCUMENT CLASSIFICATION USING A MATHEMATICALLY DERIVED CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM
Abstract
The aims of this study are to: (1) Select a representative sample of current computer literature; (2) Derive a mathematically based classification system; (3) Design a procedure for automatically classifying documents; and (4) Compare the results of automatic classification with results obtained by trained human indexers and with the results reported by Maron in his study on automatic indexing.
