GRAPHICAL DATA PROCESSING RESEARCH STUDY AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION

Abstract

The objective of this project is to conduct a research study and experiment l investigatio of techniques and equipment characteristics suitable for practical application to nonalphanumeric graphical data processing for military requirements. All phases of the graphical data processing art will be considered, including the treatment of raw graphical data, identification, programmi g, selection, indexing, access to storage, and presentation. The studies and demonstrations of feasibility will be designed to evaluate the practicability of the proposed techniques and systems, with sufficient detail to be useful in establishing the design criteria necessary for equipment procurement. The program of work will consist of: (1) the study and development of organizations of combined fixed and adaptive networks that will permit recognition of pa terns independent of size, displaceme t, and rotation; in the presence of interfering signals and noise; and on a real-time basis; (2) the development of components and subsystems suitable for implementing the schemes devised; and (3) the design and construction of an experimental Graphical Data Processing Machine making use of the techniques and component found to be most practicable by investigations.
