HYDRAZINE PROCESS DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
A gas disengager, evaporator, ma erials est loop, n lurry c psul es s are d cribed The use of evaporation, distillation, and molecular sieves as N2H4-NH3 separation techniques is described. Design of support systems for the inr ctor loop is presented. he fissio-chemical production of UF3 is reported. Gas disengager test results show that a unit small enough to fit i to the in-reactor loop will function well. Evaporative and molecular sieve separation exp ri nt b gan; a distill tion column w s designed to concentrate the in-reactor loop product stream. N2H4 was separated from a crude, radioactive product with a fission fragment decontamination f ctor of abou 1 0 Materials test loop operations showed that slurry-free, NH3-N2H4 solutions were stable for up to 180 hours. The MSA Whitby and electron microscopy methods of particle size analysis were modified. A twocolumn, gas chromatograph was developed for analyzing H an N in the presence of NH vapor. (Author)
