MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF HIGHLY FILLED ELASTOMERS

Abstract

Three experimental techniques are described, by means of which dynamic shear moduli and damping of filled rubbers may be determined within a frequency range from 0.1 to 100 c/s, within a temperature range from -150 to + 100 C and within a strain range from 0.001 to 0.5% shear. The preparation is described of polyurethane rubbers filled with different inert filler substances up to a volume content of 40%. Measurements on those samples and on a model substance are reported. Shear moduli and damping are discussed as functions of temperature, frequency and shear strain. (Author)
