EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF U.S. NAVY BUSHIPS HYDROSKIMMER STATIC PITCH PERFORMANCE WITHOUT INTERIOR JET
Abstract
The static pitch performance of the BuShips Hydroskimmer is discussed. The investigation included measurements of lift, drag, and pitching moment, as well as pressures in the plenum chamber and beneath the model. Observations of the flow beneath the model were also made. Results reported include the static stability of the model and the effect of pitch angle on full-scale discharge and power requirements. The study included three height positions of the model through a range of positive and negative angles up to two degrees and over a range of Reynolds Number, based on the average nozzle thickness, up to 20,000. The effect of air turning vanes in the plenum chamber on vehicle performance was also studied. (Author)
