SATELLITE DATA TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

Abstract

Identifi rs: Tunnel Diodes. he Satellite D ATA Transmission System is a oneway satellite-to-earth data link using an AUTOMATIC ANGLE RETURN ADAPTIVE PH SED ARRAY. A description of t e system operation and some typical applications are given. The isolation achieved by orthogonally polarized receiving and transmitting arrays is analyzed and shown to yield coupli g of less than 30 db. This results in simplified diplexing and tunnel diode amplifier requirements. A 90% reduction in primary vehicular power i shown to be obtainable with this system. Array element phase tolerance is analyzed with respect to gain r duction and is not a critical factor for most system applications. Pl ns for the design, fabrication, and test of a feasibility model are presented. This model consists of two orthogonally polarized nine-element phased arrays for receiving and trans itting, and tunnel diode amplifiers/modulators in the interconnecting lines between the arrays.
