ULTRAHIGH PRESSURE, HIGH TEMPERATURE X-RAY DIFFRACTION APPARATUS
Abstract
A tetrahedral-anvil, high-pressure ppara us ha been designed and constructed with the necessary mo ifications and adaptations to allow (Grant no. DA-ORD-42) ARO rept. no. 2723:1) Unclassified report No au omatic relea e to foreign nationals. DESCRIPTORS: *X-ray diffraction analysis, Pressure, Test methods, Voltage, Intensity, Calibration, Instrumentation, Voltage regula tor , High temperature rese rc8. Identifiers: Tetrahedral-anvil press.A tetrahedral-anvil, high-pressure ppara us ha been designed and constructed with the necessary mo ifications and adaptations to allow X-ray dif ractometry analysis of sample while they are subjected to pressures to 100,000 Kb. The construction phase of the work has been completed, and the preliminary testing of the completed system has been carried out. No refinements have yet been made to indicate the accuracy or limits of op ration of the apparatus, but no major difficulties have arisen. A highcurrent, low-voltage internal he ting system has been built in o the apparatus, and exploratory investigations have been ma e to check the adaptability of the system to temperature. (Author)
