STRESSES IN PRESSURIZED SPHEROIDAL SHELLS. PART I

Abstract

An investigation, based on the three-dimensional theory of elasticity, deals with a prolate spheroidal shell of variable thickness subjected to internal pressure. The solution is limited in its scope and incorporates Legendre functions up to the fourth order only. In view of this a-priori limitation a variable internal pressure is admitted. A theoretical exposition of the procedure which leads to a solution of this same problem with a uniform internal pressure, by incorporating an infinite FourierLegendre series, will be given in a subsequent report.
