THE EARTH'S ROTATION

Abstract

The axial velocity of the earth's rotation is subject to seasonal variations of a periodical character. It was established, however, that the seasonal variation of the axial velocity of the earth's rotation in 1959 had changed its phase considerably. According to the data published by N. Stoyko, the seasonal wave of 1959 was, in respect to phase, one month ahead of the usual wave. The 1959 phase shift has been confirmed by the data of many observatories and is in itself of significant scientific interest. (Author)
