A TECHNIQUE FOR PRODUCING EITHER APPROACH OR AVOIDANCE BEHAVIOR TO A STIMULUS ASSOCIATED WITH AN ELECTRIC SHOCK. Rept. on An Experimental Investigation of the Affects of Ataraxic and Stimulant Compounds on Reflexive Behavior in the Rat. Psychophysiological Studies, by Wayne O. DESCRIPTORS: *Electroshock, Stimulation, *Reaction (Psychology), *Behavior, Emotions, Analysis. A procedure is described in which a stimulus associated with the onset of an electric shock is later avoided and a stimulus associated with the termination of the same electric shock is laterAPPROACHED. The method allows a direct comparison of approach and avoidance behaviors occasioned by stimuli previously associated with changes in the same physical stimulus. The usefulness of the technique in psychological and psychopharmacological investigations is discussed. (Aaauthor)
