SPIN-LATTICE RELAXATION AT DEFECT SITES

Abstract

The theory of spin-lattice relaxation in dilute systems is modified to take account of the fact that the spin site is a defect site, and that the strain at this site due to a lattice wave differs from the strain in a perfect region. The following cases are treated: local modes, heavy substantial impurities, loosely bound interstitials, removal of constraint. The theory is applied to E'-centers in quartz,AND BRIEF REFERENCE IS MADE TO OTHER CASES. (Author)
