Excitation and Detection Techniques for Millimeter Wave Transitions.

Abstract

Several crystal materials were mounted for harmonic generation and detection evaluation. Preliminary tests were performed on the RG-99/U to RG-139/U multiplier-mixer. Band-pass and high-pass filters, a directional coupler, and a quasi-optical duplexer were designed and tested. The semi-confocal interferometer plates were constructed, and tests are under way on both the plane and semi-confocal interferometers. Phase stabilization of oscillators operating from 100 to 100,000 mc were successfully demonstrated. Injection locking of klystrons, which requires no correction voltage on the reflector, is being investigated. Millimeter power measurements above 120 gc were made using the golay cell. An investigation was started to determine the relative stability and spectral purity of two millimeter signals generated by frequency multiplication from the same 10 mc crystal source. Zeeman measurements were performed on two H2S lines. (Author)
