RESEARCH ON PROCEDURES FOR THE LOW-TEMPERATURE PRESERVATION OF BLOOD XII. PROCEDURES FOR THE DETERMINATION OF IN VIVO SURVIVAL OF PRESERVED RED CELLS IN HUMANS

Abstract

Many of the existing procedures for the determination of in vivo survival of red blood cells are evaluated and the potential errors of some of these procedures when applied to frozen thawed blood are discussed. Three procedures for the in vivo determination of red cell survival in humans are discussed in detail. The first two employ phosphorus-32 and chromium-51. The third procedure employs a chromium-51, chromium-51 double tagging. All equipment necessary for any of the three procedures is listed.
