MASS DEPENDENCE IN THE EMISSION OF ELECTRONS DUE TO ISOTOPIC IONS (MASSENABHANGIGKEIT DER ELEKTRONENAUSLOSUNG DURCH ISOTOPE IONEN)

Abstract

The electron emission caused by bombarding cold and hot (degassed) Pt, Mo, and Be, and just cold Cu, with the positive ions, Li 6, Li 7, Ne 20, Ne 22, K 39 and K 41, was measured by a mass spectrometer, and the ionic reflection was determined. Upon bombardment by isotopic ions of the same energy, both groups showed a certain dependency on mass. This could be reduced toA SIMPLE DEPENDENCY ON VELOCITY, AND WAS DEMONSTRATED BY MEASURING THE VARIOUS TARGETS AND IONS MENTIONED ABOVE AT ENERGIES RANGING FROM 600 TO 6000 EV AND AT YIELDS OF 28 TO 700%. Using the velocity law discovered, various metals used in the electron emission were discussed. Of all the possibilities investigated, only the liberation of bound electrons on the surface fit in with the results of the measurements. The irregular emission of electrons in the Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs sequence shows that when electron configurations are similar, a simple correlation between electron emission and ion radius exists.
