PROJECT SKYHOOK

Abstract

A summary of three 'Skyhook' balloon flights is given followed by detailed flight reports of each flight. The scientific objective was satisfied on each flight. Balloon performance on each flight was good although the time altitude curve of Flight 890 shows a very slow descent starting approximately two hours after launch. In approximately ten hours the balloon descended from 118,000 to 104,000 feet. A small hole in the balloon, which is understandable in consideration of the 1/2 mil polyethylene shell, could account for the slow descent. Operational and launch problems encountered on the flights are outlined. (Author)
