INTERPRETATION OF THE SIMULTANEOUS PHASE AND AMPLITUDE FLUCTUATIONSOF IONOSPHERICALLY REFLECTED 60 KC/S RADIO WAVES
Abstract
A theoretical development is carried out to obtain the auto- and cross-correlation functions for vertical incidence phase and amplitude fluctuations of ionospherically reflected long radio waves. Six months of such data obtained at 60 Kc are presented and interpreted in terms of the above theory. Methods for determining the heights of the irregularities producing these fluctuations are outlined. It is concluded that the data may be interpreted on the basis of a phase screen at a height in the neighborhood of 89 to 107 Km. (Author)
