The Energy Budget at the Earth's Surface: Theoretical Estimate of Photosynthesis Under Field Conditions.

Abstract

Using reasonable esti ate of lig ab orp ion by crop of plants growing under natural conditions, he maxi um th rm l efficiency for photosynthesis is calculated to be 14% of inciden radiation in the 0.4 to 0.7 micron wave lengths. Aerodynamic exchange calculations of carbon dioxide in an active corn crop gave an estima d photosyn ic efficie cy of 4% of the toal incident short ave radiation .3 - 3. micron, or 29% or the photosynthetic potential. An attempt was made also to evaluate some components of the carbon ioxide transfer processe involved. (Author)
