SOME RESULTS ON ELECTROMAGNETIC SURFACE WAVE PROPAGATION ALONG INHOMOGENEOUS CYLINDERS

Abstract

Previously derived theory has been applied in a determination of HE sub 21 and EH sub 21 mode parameters for a particular set of cylinders with radial permittivity variation. The permittivity has been represented by the first three terms of a power series in terms of the radius. The results are discussed, and some of the theoretical data are verified experimentally. For the range of permittivities considered empirical expressions are derived for HE sub 21 and EH sub 21 mode cutoffs which may be useful in preliminary design. Computer programs and a discussion of the numerical method used are included. (Author)
