THE STUDY OF ELECTROMAGNETIC TECHNIQUES FOR SPACE NAVIGATION
Abstract
The comparison of template tests showed a reduction in dispersion will not adversely affect the S/N ratio provided that the widths of the spectral lines are reduced in proportion to the dispersion. Although 500 wobbulation is effective in reducing noise, instabilities in the mirror driver unit have prevented reliable operation at this frequency. Tests have been carried out with two methods of detection at 10c. Results showed the standard technique of matching alternate 20c peaks is superior to a phase detection method working only with the 10c signal. Data analysis showed the average uncertainty in velocity measurement at 10c is 164 m/sec. Fabrication of the stellar spectrograph is proceeding. (Author)
