AIR TRAFFIC FLOW PATTERNS
Abstract
Air traffic flow patterns are presented pictorially. The flow patterns were developed from the flight paths of itinerant air carrier, general aviation and military aircraft over the Continental United States. The displays of air traffic flow were made on the Cartographatron, an electronic analog device which plots traffic data by means of a precision cathode ray tube used in combination with a photographic emulsion. Flow patterns generated by various classes of aircraft, by flight rules, by altitude strata and by other flight characteristics are shown. (Author)
