ANGULAR CORRELATIONS IN LAMBDA BETA DECAY

Abstract

A current-current type of interaction is assumed with the conventional lepton current coupled to a general hyperon current involving 6 unknown form factors. The expression obtained for the electron proton angular correlation is to a large extent dominated by phase space and for reasonable assumptions about the form factors the angular distribution of electrons with respect to the proton momentum is always peaked in the backward direction. This also holds true for a scalar, pseudoscalar or a tensor interaction. Some comments are made on the effect of an intermediate particle. (Author)
