HYPOTHALMIC AND FOREBRAIN AREAS RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTROL OF SECRETION OF THYROTHOPHIC AND ADRENOCORTICOTROPHIC HORMONES

Abstract

Projects concerned: (1) The control the hypothalamus exerts over thyrotrophic hormone secretion from the anterior pituitary gland, (2) The development of an assay method for measuring the concentration of thyrotrophic hormone in blood, and the application of this method to several of the other individual projects, (3) The humoral mechanism by which the hypothalamus controls the secretion of thyrotrophic hormone from the anterior pituitary gland, (4) The humoral mechanism by which the hypothalamus control the secretion of gonadotrophic hormone (Luteinizing hormone), (5) The effects exerted on the mature central nervous system by the feed-back action of gonadal hormones, and (6) The inductive or organizing effect exerted on the immature central nervous system by the feed-back of gonadal hormones.
