MATERIAL-SCREENING SOLID LAMINATE-RADOMES-EVALUATION OF

Abstract

Four resins were used in the fabrication of laminates. Epon 828 and Dow Epoxy Resin 332, both being epoxy resins, were compared to each other as were two modified polyester resins, Laminac 4232 and Vibrin 136A. Laminates were made from each resin incorporating several variables including three fabric finishes, three cure cycles, three curing agents, three curing agent concentrations, and three finished laminate resin content ranges. The variables were selected which produced the best laminate, structurally and electrically, from each resin. The Epon 828 laminate-system possessing the most desirable combination of structural strengths and electrical properties was compared to the best D.E.R. 332 laminate so as to select the epoxy laminate system to be further evaluated. A comparison between the optimum Laminac 4232 laminate and the most desirable Vibrin 136A laminate produced the modified polyester system that was to be further evaluated. (Author)
